BROADCASTING OVERVIEW
Extensive radio freelance broadcast experience spanning 40 years and counting, along with intense TV network newsroom and on location production experience.
1996 – 2020 – On air appearances on radio and TV stations across the U.S. and abroad as a guest and DJ. Most noted are occasional appearances on WLW in Cincinnati with Gary Burbank as well as a guest DJ appearance on Sirius XM’s E Street Radio and B.B. King’s Bluesville.
1996 – Present – Roger “Hurricane” Wilson’s American Music Show: Currently producing a weekly one-hour music show airing on KALA – FM in Davenport, Iowa and Blueswave Radio in Athens, Greece, both streaming worldwide.
1996 – 1999 – Hurricane Blues Side – Produced and voiced syndicated blues music show based in Macon, Georgia that played on as many as 8 radio stations across the U.S.
1988 – 1996 – Cable News Network – Atlanta, GA Responsible for Weekend Production Department, overseeing production, timing, and coordinating scheduling of weekend taped and live programming. Was involved in heavy newsroom production of Tiannamen Square, Persian Gulf War, O J trial, San Francisco earthquakes, and Hurricane Hugo as well as other notable live events. Experience also involved some hands-on involvement in the CNN Washington, DC Bureau, and the White House.
1986 – 1988 – CNN Radio Network – Atlanta, GA Was responsible for board operation for live network newscasts, as well as editing duties for CNN Radio Network servicing approximately 450 affiliate radio stations.
1985 – 1987 – WLKQ – Buford, GA. Country Music Format Weekend DJ
1985 – 1986 – Metro Traffic Control – Atlanta, GA Duties included reporting live and taped traffic reports from ground locations during Atlanta rush hour traffic.
1983 – 1988 – WGST Radio – Atlanta, GA Duties included live remote production as well as studio operation and in house production. Involved in sports production for Atlanta Falcons Radio Network and Georgia Tech Football and Basketball. Covered and produced live events with Former President Jimmy Carter and President Ronald Reagan, and presidential candidates Walter Mondale and running mate Geraldine Ferraro.
1985 – 1989 – WSB Radio – Atlanta, GA Duties included sports production for Atlanta Falcons Radio Network and University of Georgia Football and Basketball. Was also involved as fill-in talk show screener and on-air DJ.
1974 – 1986 – WGUN Radio – Atlanta, GA On air operation of this 50,000 watt AM station on weekends involving taped and live programming as well as transmitter operation and meter readings. Other metro Atlanta stations involving these same duties included WTJH and WXAP.
1983 – 1990 – WYNX Radio – Smyrna- Atlanta, GA Served as on-air personality including creation and production of local Christian music show.
1981 – 1986 WJYF Radio – Marietta, GA –WCOB/ WJYA On air shift for Music of Your Life and Big Band music format.
1973 – 1974 – WRAS Radio – Georgia State University – Atlanta, GA First on air experience involved producing and reading live hourly newscast, and weekly DJ music air shift.
